EFFECT OF HURRICANE IAN ON PINEWOOD SOUTH

                                                            EFFECT OF HURRICANE IAN ON

                           PINEWOOD SOUTH CONDOMINIUM ASSOCIATION, INC.

Hurricane Ian was a major event, the likes of which we have not experienced before. To make matters worse, it hit Fort Myers directly. Below is a preliminary damage report resulting from property inspections by Carmine. Carmine and Greg Grover (our new Board member) included visual inspections of all buildings (100 through 2100) as well as the entrance area, yards, driveways and grounds. Preliminary reports are:

  • Sign at RT. 41 is gone
  • Downspouts and soffits missing on several buildings
  • Vinyl fence sections on east side (toward RT 41) were blown down
  • Wood fence between Pinewood and the hotel blown down opposite bldg. 1900
  • Well system damaged and presently inoperable
  • Five palm trees down- they fell on grass and driveways primarily
  • Exit gate flown off and damaged
  • Wood fences around A/C units on building ends were blown away
  • Fences around trash bins blown down.
  • Several units have screen damages that will require re-screening
  • A couple of units have broken windows

United Landscaping is on site with a cleanup crew for the roads, and grass which are full of debris…With the extensive damage, it will take several months to get the place back to a reasonable state. Be patient, we are doing everything possible to return the property to its former beautiful state. Owners and residents on site have joined in to help with the cleanup, chain saws are in operation, and people have really risen to the occasion, neighbor helping neighbor and doing functions to get the place back to normal. WHAT A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE WE HAVE AT PINEWOOD THANKS TO ALL FOR THE HELP!!!

WHAT OWNERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR UNITS, AND WHAT THEY SHOULD DO NOW:

Most units appear to be structurally sound without invasion of water or debris however this is based upon Carmine’s walk through of the external areas. The Board strongly suggests that you call the individual who watches your unit to verify that all is ok inside the unit.  The Board has always recommended that owners have someone watching their unit. If you have not been doing that, you should definitely start!!

Owners should contact their insurance company and put them on notice that the Hurricane may have affected your unit. This puts them on notice and puts you near the top of the response cue if you ultimately file a claim. Insurance companies are going to be inundated with claims and you will be further up in the line.

                                         *******************************************************

IN THE DAYS TO COME CARMINE WILL BE CALLING OWNERS WHO HAVE BROKEN GLASS, DESTROYED SCREEN LANAIS OR OTHER VISABLE UNIT DAMAGE WHICH WOULD NEED YOUR REPAIR. KEEP IN MIND THAT CARMINE WILL NOT ENTER UNITS, SO HAVE YOUR UNIT WATCHER REPORT TO YOU REGARDING THE CONDITION OF YOUR UNIT.

CARMINE HAS ARRANGED TO HAVE OUR ASSOCIATION INSURANCE CARRER HAVE THE COMPLEX INSPECTED FOR INSURANCE REIMBURSMENT AND FEMA WHERE APPLICABLE.

WE WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AS CLEANUP PROGRESSES.
